WDA will oversee the construction, financing and management of what will be Australia鈥檚 largest infrastructure project.

WDA鈥檚 Chairman, Tony Shepherd, heads a board with extensive infrastructure and public-private partnership experience, including Peter Brecht, Rod Pearse, Robert Hamilton, Peter Regan, Peter Duncan and David Stewart.聽
Shepherd is chairman of the Business Council of Australia and a former Director of Transfield. 鈥淭ony Shepherd is one of Australia鈥檚 outstanding business figures with a long track record of achievement within the infrastructure industry, including the Sydney Harbour Tunnel and Melbourne City Link,鈥� said Gay.
The NSW and Australian governments are providing AU$3.3bn for theAU$11bn to AU$11.5bn project, with the remainder to be financed by tolls.
鈥淲estConnex will revolutionise the way Sydneysiders travel about our great city, cutting 40 minutes off a typical journey from Parramatta to the airport, and bypassing up to 52 sets of traffic lights,鈥� said Gay.
He added that 10,000 jobs will be created during the construction phase, including hundreds of apprenticeships for young people.
