But building work rose just 0.6%, to AU$19.4bn, with the rise driven by engineering work surging 22.6% to AU$28bn in the seasonally adjusted estimates.
Total construction value for the quarter was 18.1% higher than the same quarter last year, though this is made up of drops in building sectors offset by a 48.9% rise in engineering. The falls were 16.2% in non-residential building and 3.5% for residential.
The figures are estimates, providing an early indication ahead of the release of more comprehensive and updated results in January. Information is based on a response rate of approximately 80% of the value of both building and engineering construction activity in the quarter.
