Atkins wins Middle East contract for US Army

27 Jun 11 Atkins has been awarded one of 14 design-build multiple award task order contracts (MATOCs) for the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Middle East District.

Atkins will be the designer of record, working on a team led by Innovative Technical Solutions.

As designer of record, Atkins will provide architecture and engineering support services for all construction and design-build tasks awarded to the team under the MATOC.

Task orders for the proposed MATOCs are anticipated to run anywhere from US$20m (拢12.5m) to US$100m. All firms that have been awarded contracts will compete for each individual task order. Work orders for the proposed MATOCs will total nearly US$4 billion based on the projected work programme. The contract duration is two calendar years, with as many as three one-year options.

Projects will be carried out in support of the US Military鈥檚 Central Command region which covers 20 countries: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.

鈥淲hile the geographic scope of this effort is diverse, nearly all of the design and project management will be carried out from here in the US via a sophisticated 鈥榬each back鈥 technical support system,鈥 said Atkins senior program manager Scott Borges. 鈥淭his is a proven system that we鈥檝e used successfully for similar work in support of the US Army in Afghanistan, Djibouti, and in other locations.鈥
