GGR, the master distributor for Unic mini spider cranes in Europe, hopes to use the smartphone 鈥榓pp鈥 as part of the compact crane training course at its training facilities in Oldham and Long Crendon, Bucks. The app will be used to get trainees familiar with the control panels of the cranes on their mobile phones before they have a go at using the equipment for real.
The GGR Group iPhone app simulates a Unic mini crane remote control panel with functions such as 鈥榖oom in and out鈥, 鈥榖oom up and down鈥, 鈥榮lew right and left鈥 and 鈥榟ook up and down鈥.
GGR Group CEO Graeme Riley said: 鈥淲e hope that this new learning tool will help the next generation of crane operators engage with the training sessions. Using the control panel simulator should make key messages from the training more memorable and the downloadable app is something they can take away and use again.鈥
This is not the first time GGR Group has tried unusual methods of teaching on its training courses. It also uses scaled-down Lego replicas of cranes in the classroom to show different parts of the machinery up close.
