Amey renews Calderdale contract for £120m

8 Aug 12 Amey has been named preferred bidder for a new highways maintenance contract with Calderdale Council worth up to £120m.

Amey has been Calderdale鈥檚 highways maintenance and street lighting provider since May 2000. This new deal begins in October 2012 and runs for five years, with the option to extend for up to 15 years.

The contract includes a wider range of services than before, with the provision of drainage, winter maintenance and emergency highway operations for the council, as well as the maintenance of 1,100km of road and 36,000 street lights.

Amey chief executive Mel Ewell said: 鈥淥ver the past 12 years we have developed a strong relationship with the council and have worked hard to integrate ourselves into the borough.聽 We look forward to continuing our contract and improving the transport network for the people of Calderdale.鈥

聽Calderdale Council鈥檚 cabinet member for economy and environment, Cllr Barry Collins, said: 鈥淓very penny counts in Calderdale and it is important that we negotiate the very best deal that we can on every contract. I am pleased that we have been able to secure a contract with one of the country鈥檚 leading providers of public services at a price that reflects the need to spend public money in a prudent and cost-effective way.鈥
