Amey and Bear win Scottish highway maintenance deals

5 Jun 14 Amey and Bear Scotland have been selected by Transport Scotland for new fourth generation road maintenance contracts.

Bear Scotland 鈥揳n alliance of Eurovia, Jacobs and Breedon Aggregates 鈥 will continue with the maintenance of 613 miles of trunk roads in the northeast of Scotland.

Amey takes over the southeast area that covers 551 route miles under a contract valued at 拢92m

The contractors will be responsible for inspection and maintenance work, including salting and snow clearing as well as gully cleaning and the repair of motorway lighting and traffic signals.

The contracts, which run for six years, are expected to be signed in the coming weeks and take effect from 16th August 2014.

Transport minister Keith Brown said: 鈥淪cotland鈥檚 trunk road network plays a vital part in our economy by allowing the transport of goods and services the length and breadth of the country. We are continuing our investment in the trunk roads, 拢711.8m in the last financial year, and these contracts will encourage the operating companies to deliver the innovative services that we need to make the most of this.

鈥淭he contracts are being awarded following a rigorous assessment and a tendering process that sought best value coupled with high quality delivery.

鈥淏oth Bear Scotland and Amey have submitted strong tenders and we are confident they can build on their previous experience to deliver the services the people and businesses of Scotland deserve.鈥
