Alstom picks Thales for Expo 2020 signals upgrades

14 Mar 17 Dubai's Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) and the Alstom-led Expolink consortium have selected Thales to provide the systems for the metro that will serve the World Expo 2020 site.

Thales will provide driverless train signalling technology as well as integrated supervision, telecommunications, passengers’ services, security and fare collection systems.

The Red Line is one of the longest driverless metro lines in the world and will be used by the 25 million visitors expected at World Expo 2020. The 15km extension - known as Route 2020 - will include seven stations and is currently under construction and is due to enter into service in May 2020, five months before the Expo opens.

The Expolink consortium, which also includes Acciona and Gulermak, is designing and building the Red Line extension for RTA (Roads & Transport Authority) as well as upgrading the existing line. The total value of the project is €2.6bn (£2.3bn).
