Aggregate Industries outsources half of its plant maintenance to UPS

26 Jun 17 Plant machinery maintenance specialist United Plant Services has won a contract to keep machinery up and running at some of Aggregate Industries’ quarries.

Aggregate 滨苍诲耻蝉迟谤颈别蝉鈥 quarrying operations rely on more than 600 plant vehicles and machines across 70 UK quarries, all of which demand reliable maintenance and repair services to effectively minimise downtime.

United Plant Services (UPS) has been assigned servicing responsibility for half of Aggregate 滨苍诲耻蝉迟谤颈别蝉鈥 plant assets, covering northern Scotland, southeast England and Northern Ireland.

UPS has a mobile maintenance workforce and will also work from quarry-based workshops in Cookstown, Northern Ireland, and on the Isle of Grain in Kent.

Previously, Aggregate Industries has done the work in house. It is now outsourcing and transferring staff under TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings 鈥 Protection of Employment) regulations.

The contract takes UPS into the Northern Irish market for the first time.

鈥淲e鈥檙e thrilled to have been selected as the appropriate service partner for this extensive contract,鈥 said UPS managing director Mark Cooper. 鈥淭here are not many plant machinery maintenance specialists that carry the staff, skillset and logistical expertise to successfully undertake a contract with such far-reaching parameters, while simultaneously supplying services from onsite facilities.鈥

Aggregate 滨苍诲耻蝉迟谤颈别蝉鈥 national heavy machinery manager Paul Mitchinson said: 鈥Aggregate Industries currently operates a varied range of assets throughout the UK and United Plant Services has demonstrated its technical ability to provide a service which caters for all of these asset types. The newly introduced software package which UPS is using will provide paperless real-time reporting and tracking of scheduled and completed works.聽 This means all our UK sites will have access to the UPS portal to view events and download information as required.聽 We are very keen to start working with UPS to provide a seamless maintenance solution to reduce downtime and increase utilisation throughout the fleet.鈥
