Patex developed this system, known as the ‘Crane-Eye’, in response to a request from its client Taylor Woodrow. One of the crane operators needed to see what was happening, in the bottom of a shaft, from the cab. With line-of-sight to be no problem, Patex built a wireless CCTV system where 4 cameras were deployed in the shaft covering all required views. Then, a screen with a view of all 4 cameras was installed in the cab.Â
Peter Massey, Technical Director, says “With health and safety requirements becoming an ever increasing necessity for safety-critical jobs like crane operation, our wireless CCTV technologies can offer fast solutions to what has seemed impossible in the past. And, we’ve been able to use a free license which means there are no ongoing costs. We’re really pleased to have a new market for this system.“
Patex is now working with other construction companies to deliver instant safety solutions for sites where the field of view is obstructed.Â
