Balfour BeattyBalfour Beatty has won 拢270m of new construction contracts in the road and rail sectors.

The contractor has been chosen by Network Rail to undertake major improvement work at Edinburgh's Waverley Station. The 拢50m contract, which is scheduled to begin in spring this year, and to be completed in 2013, comprises the renovation of the 34,000m2 glass roof and associated works.

Balfour Beatty has also won a number of contracts in the roads sector:

  • The A11 Fiveways to Thetford Improvement Highways Agency Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract, with a scheme cost in excess of 拢106m, to dual the last single carriageway section of the A11;
  • Two Construction Management Framework contracts for civil engineering works in the Highways Agency's Area 10, covering south Lancashire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Cheshire and Area 9, covering Herefordshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands.
  • Both contracts, which will be worth in excess of 拢20 million, are for four years with an option to extend them for a further three years;
  • The one-year Midlands Framework 4 contract, for which Balfour Beatty is one of four contractors, is valued at 拢60m to the company. The contract has a potential one-year extension. The structural works, surfacing and roadworks will be carried out in the Highways Agency's Areas 7 and 9 in the Midlands;
  • Finally, , Balfour Beatty has been awarded the 拢35m, A487 Porthmadog, Minffordd and Tremadog Bypass contract by the Welsh Assembly Government in JV with Jones Bros.
