The scheme involves construction of a 3km single carriageway road. Its northern end will connect into a junction with the A6 Manchester Airport relief road that is currently under construction and the southern end links to the A523 London Road via a new roundabout junction to the west of the Adlington Travel Lodge.
The Poynton relief road is part of the South East Manchester Multi Modal Study Scheme that was developed to tackle transport problems on the southeast side of Greater Manchester.
Consulting engineer for the scheme is Jacobs.
The project is being jointly promoted by Cheshire East Council and Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, which is currently considering a planning application for the part of the development within its borders.
